Mossberg Maverick 88 shotguns are basic, no frills, affordable and durable shotguns. They’ll run with a wide variety of shells and the fact that parts are interchangeable with the Mossberg 500 make them an attractive option.
The shotgun that we have on consignment (MV87085S) has a 20 inch barrel. The extended magazine on this model will hold 7 shells. This barrel is not threaded for chokes. The 12 Gauge shotgun will chamber both 2-3/4 inch shells and 3 inch shells. There is a single bead sight at the end of the barrel.
Based on what we see, this shotgun may have started life as a Maverick 88 Cruiser. That’s just our guess. In any case, either the Cruiser pistol grip or the original Maverick 88 stock has been removed. A Knoxx Spec Ops adjustable stock has been installed in its place. These are very nice stocks and do an excellent job of reducing felt recoil. The stock and recoil pad are in Very Good condition. A nylon sling with shell holders has also been added to the gun.
The bore is overall good and the barrel is bright and clean. The action is smooth. Safety is a cross-bolt variety. The finish on the receiver is in Very Good condition. The barrel has a few pencil lead sized spots of thinning finish but is still in Good – Very Good condition.
If you’re after an affordable, dependable 12 Gauge shotgun that is tactical and ready to shoot, this price is hard to beat.

This is a consignment sale and, like all of our consignments, we have not test fired this shotgun. We have performed our function checks on the gun. The only issue that we find is that there is some play in the forearm, but this is common on the Maverick 88 model. As with all pre-owned firearm purchases, please review the photos carefully so that you are comfortable with the condition of the shotgun.
