This is a nice example of a US WWI Battle Rifle. According to historical records, Sgt. Alvin York used a 1917 Enfield, but not this one! I purchased this rifle in 1974. I shot it shortly after the purchase and found it very accurate. I cleaned it; it has been in my gun room for 50 years. The rifle is in the original issue configuration with no known alterations It's not a rebuild. The barrel is dated Flaming Bomb 1-18. The walnut stock is very nice and has a great grain pattern. The stock is marked E for Eddystone. The original blued finish is in excellent condition, with smooth metal and no pitting or corrosion. Mechanically, it is perfect. The bore is good with distinct rifling. The rifle has multiple eagle head inspector marks from the Eddystone factory.
I would consider a trade, full or partial, for the following in comparable condition: Colt or S&W 1917 .45 ACP, Colt New Service .45 Colt, Colt 1903 7.65, Germam Manufactured Walther PP or PPK 7.65, Remington Model 51 7.65, WWII Walther P-38, WWII Enfield or Webley revolver or other interesting historical handguns.
